Eligibility for the IIT JAM
Biotechnology course is that candidate should have a bachelor's degree from any subject of science like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Life science with
a minimum of 55% marks.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s
degree in the relevant field of the subject with at least 55% marks or 5.5
(CGPA/CPI) out of 10 for General or OBC -Non-Creamy Layer category candidates,
and 50% marks or 5.0 (CGPA/CPI) out of 10 for SC/ST and PwD category
candidates.
Foreign national candidates
that have Indian institutes or colleges and university degrees are also
eligible to apply for the IIT JAM exam but admission is subject to the
admitting institute’s policy after qualifying for the exam.

IIT JAM Biotechnology Entrance
Exam Question Paper Pattern
- The entrance exam would be online mode, which is Computer Based Test (CBT) where the candidates have to solve the questions in a random sequence that is shown on a computer screen.
- The duration of the examination will be of exactly 3 hours only, after time over the computer screen will be closed automatically.
- Question paper medium will be in the English language only. There will be a total of 60 questions that have to solve that possess 100 marks.
- The JAM Examination paper is divided into A, B, and C sections that include three different patterns of questions.
- Section A has 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) in which 10 questions of carrying one mark and 20 of two marks.
- Section B has 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) which carries two marks for each question.
- Section C has 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. Among the total of 20 questions, 10 questions are of one mark each and the other 10 questions are of 2 marks each.
- There is a negative marks system for section A questions. For one marks question, there are 1/3 negative marks if your answer will found wrong. Similarly, for 2 marks questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted if your answer is found wrong.
- Candidates have to use only a virtual calculator that is available online during the CBT examination.
- Mobile phones and electronic items are fully prohibited during the exam.
- For rough work, a scribble pad will be provided to the candidates during the exam that has to return after the exam is over.
- Candidates have to use a computer's mouse only, candidates have to use a virtual keyboard only.
How to Apply for IIT JAM Examination
Candidates can apply for the JAM
examination through online mode only there is no offline mode available to
apply for the examination.
- JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) links are available on the official websites of all IITs and IISc Bangalore.
- Then the candidate has to register online on the JOAPS website by using the name, mobile number, email id, and password.
- After registration candidate will get an Enrolment ID on his email. For further communication, the candidate has to use this ID and password.
- Candidates have to require to upload the necessary documents during the online application like the photograph, signature, category certificate, PwD certificate, etc.
- The application fee also has to submit online mode only during the application process.
Candidates should carry the
following data before start applying online. Detailed personal information like
candidate full name as per documents, date of birth, personal and parents
mobile number, parent’s name, communication address with Pincode, eligibility
degree details, institute/college name with address, choice of examination
cities, etc.
